Welcome to The Pearl, our newsletter for teachers across the United Arab Emirates using Monster Phonics.
I am Ingrid Connors, Founder of Monster Phonics. We are delighted to be working with you and with the Ministry of Education. Being chosen as a partner is something we value greatly, and we see this as the start of a genuine partnership.
You are at the heart of this work. We are really looking forward to meeting many of you at our regional workshops in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the week beginning 9 February, and online with our colleagues in KG on Friday 13 February. These sessions are an important opportunity for us to meet you and begin building relationships.
Over time, we will offer ongoing training and professional development to support you in your classrooms. As a first step, we would love every MoE teacher to work towards an initial Monster Phonics Teaching Certificate. Monster Phonics is a Department for Education certified phonics programme in the United Kingdom, meeting the highest national standards.
This first certificate is achieved through:
Attending a Monster Phonics workshop
Taking part in live online training sessions
Completing our short online course, Phonics Fundamentals
If you miss the initial workshops, there will be further opportunities later in the term.
Monster Phonics is more than a digital programme. We are really looking forward to delivering classroom resources for every UAE school, alongside shared resources for use across schools. We are very grateful to the Ministry of Education for ensuring that every classroom has physical materials alongside the digital platform. This reflects our shared belief that the strongest phonics programmes combine digital and physical resources.
The Pearl will be a place to share small pearls of wisdom, from the Monster Phonics team and increasingly from within your own professional community.
